Sold under the Naxonate trademark, these alkylarylsulfonates find their greatest utility in laundry and dishwashing detergents, where the hydrotope's coupling action stabilizes consumer product formulations. Additional applications are in industrial and institutional cleaners, electroplating agents, adhesives, textile specialties and other products.
Laboratory tests amply demonstrate the ability of hydrotopes to increase the solubility of organic compounds in aqueous solutions, solubilize otherwise insoluble compounds such as oils and dyes, and enhance the stability of many different types of solutions. Sulfonic acids are precursors to hydrotopes and we market toluene sulfonic acid, xylene sulfonic acid, and other specialty sulfonic acids. These acids are useful as catalysts and should be considered whenever a strong acid catalyst is required. Applications include esterification, curing catalysts for foundry resins and phenolic forms.
